Hickory trees slow to leaf out in the spring of 1998 after the battle in the 4th density waged around Jack's house. The two trees at the right are much closer to the house than the one at the left, and both trees were slow to leaf out. Notice the tree at the left which shows retarded leafing on the side facing the house, an obvious heat direction indicator. It is at the bottom of this tree facing the house where the picture of the three retarded Dogwood blossoms was taken. These same two trees were slow to leaf out in the spring of 1999, indicating long range damage from the heat.

This is a fall scene in 1998 of the same three Hckory trees, showing the two nearest Jack's house at the right shedding their leaves much earlier than the Hickory tree at the left. Something caused these two trees to leaf out late and shed leaves early, an obvious indication of the heat damage of the forth density battle which raged around this house in early April 1998.
